We had a field day and it was great!

blog mblandini logo We had a field day and it was great!Lots of folks use the expression, “having a field day” – mostly with positive connotations, like a day set aside for athletic competitions or a time of extraordinary pleasure or opportunity.  From my time in the Marine Corps, a field day meant housecleaning and inspections (definitely not fun). Today at Drobo, we indeed had an extraordinarily positive experience sponsoring a Gestalt IT Tech Field Day event, the 4th time Drobo has been a sponsor.Continue Reading

Reality is in the eye of the beholder

blog mblandini e1332538823856 Reality is in the eye of the beholderTechnology has altered reality.  Sporting events can be more vivid and higher impact on a 60+in HD flat panel compared to seeing the event live. Technology discussions can be faster and more interactive over the web using a live demo with displays and webcams compared to sitting in a room with a whiteboard. Technology enables new ways of doing things that really are better – not necessarily avatars and CGI – but a more efficient version of what is real.

Some real and really good analysis was posted today from someone with a very keen eye on reality for storage customers. Matt Prigge posted to his Information Overload column @ InfoWorld.com on “How to avoid a forklift storage upgrade.”  Continue Reading

blog jsherhart Drobo Veeam promos extended to Q2 by popular demandWell, the people spoke and we gave away a lot of Veeam software in Q1. Because we want you to have the most affordable VM backup solution on the market, we’ve decided to extend the offer to Q2. Actually there are two Q2 offers in effect until June 30:

The customer is always right

blog mblandini e1332538823856 The customer is always rightNot unlike most folks, my first job was not in high tech, it was in customer service. I was a waiter in high school at a 24-hour diner prior to joining the Marine Corps. Before that, I was a paperboy for the San Jose Mercury News back when kids still delivered papers on bicycle. I earned carrier of the month in 1984 right about the same time that the popular Atari video game Paperboy was released.

In customer service, the motto “The customer is always right” is well understood.Continue Reading

My favorite city-state for business and dining pleasure

blog mblandini e1332538823856 My favorite city state for business and dining pleasureI was south of the equator in my last post and this post is coming from north of it. Well, just 85 miles north of the equator in Singapore, where VMware held its Partner Exchange event for south Asia, a great chance to connect with resellers. The event represents a melting pot of VMware partners across the region, in keeping with the renowned food culture in Singapore that mixes Chinese, Malay, Indian, Japanese, and Thai with western cooking.Continue Reading

Microsoft Exchange, SQL, and Hyper-V customers go shopping for storage …

blog tbuiocchi e1332538899728 Microsoft Exchange, SQL, and Hyper V customers go shopping for storage ...This is the one where Microsoft Exchange, SQL, and Hyper-V customers go shopping for storage at Microsoft’s biggest partners but decide that Drobo is a better choice.  We love this story.

We’ve just completed some customer research polling our business users, and I asked the team to cut the data to only those who were in pure Microsoft application or virtualization environments. Continue Reading

Drobo in a land down under

blog mblandini e1332538823856 Drobo in a land down underI spent the end of the week in Australia, which is beautiful in the fall season. Can you believe it has been 30 years since the Men at Work song hit the airwaves and introduced us to the “land down under,” the old fashioned way (i.e., before YouTube)? I did not witness any man “chunder” while visiting Sydney as the well-known song would imply men do, but I did speak with many customers who are using Drobo business storage to back up and protect business data.

The discussions were very fitting, as it was just prior to World Backup Day.Continue Reading
