With a very Italian name, you might wonder why I’m making reference to a bottled spaghetti sauce. I use it when it goes on sale, though I dramatically enhance it with two different meats, crimini mushrooms, and sweet onions, bolstered with stewed tomatoes and a can of paste, simmered with chili flakes and a kicker of sriracha sauce. Maybe if I used Prego it would already be “in there”, but the prep is still pretty easy,
The word “prego” is an Italian word that means “you are welcome.”More efficient in Italian, it does not take 3 words, just 1 very simple word. Everything you need is there you need is in there: 5 letters and 2 syllables. This week I had the pleasure of thanking Michael Leworthy of Microsoft for being a guest expert on our solution webcast series. As a Senior Product Manager for Hyper-V, Michael shared his insights on how SMB customers are using Hyper-V.
The main theme of the webcast was that high availability with live migration is built into Windows Server 2008 R2. It’s in there. If you have Server 2008 R2, you already have it and can use it if you also have the right SAN architecture. We discussed the benefits of the right architecture for SMBs, including the many uses for planned migrations for the IT manager who is pressed for time. With Server 2008 R2, you get minimal to zero disruption to client connections because the VM is duplicated on another host aand client connections are moved. Management has been much improved compared to previous versions (I like the built-in cluster validation), so more SMBs can feel comfortable using it, especially because the price is right.
Net = You are welcome, and really it is our pleasure @ Drobo to deliver SAN storage that is a great fit for smaller Microsoft server environments with solution materials that make it easy for SMBs. Live migration for higher availability and much easier maintenance is not only for enterprises, SMBs can take advantage of it too, because it is built into Server 2008R2. They already have it, and with a Drobo SAN based on B1200i, they can take advantage if it and enjoy acceleration for their transactional applications with Automated Data-Aware Tiering. Support for Microsoft Clustering and Hyper-V live migration on Drobo B1200i? It’s in there.
