Top Silicon Valley company you wish you worked for

blog mblandini logo Top Silicon Valley company you wish you worked forWork. By itself, the word “work” usually has a less than positive connotation. My brother is an artist.  His work schedule is nowhere similar to mine; he works at odd hours when inspiration comes, he works intensely, and it is all positive. I like a more structured role as part of a team and I probably work more for money than my brother, but for me too work is positive. A fan of great people in Marketing, I have always liked what Debra Sandler said when she worked at Pepsi in the 90s: Why [work}?  For technical excellence.Continue Reading

Apple endorses Drobo’s strategy of BOTH …

blog epounds Apple endorses Drobos strategy of BOTH …… well, not directly, but Apple’s new Fusion Drive feature is the internal drive complement to Drobo’s Data-Aware Tiering technology. These technologies provide the value of BOTH capacity in hard disk drives AND performance from solid state drives. Both are affordable, fully automatic, and easy-to-use. If you want high-capacity storage that’s affordable, you need to use a hard disk drive, but that HDD can be made much faster by combining it with a little bit of flash. Seagate (hybrid drive), Intel (Smart Response), and others are also creating intelligent technologies that use HDDs and SSDs in exactly the way that uses them best. So it’s a pretty easy decision: if you want to leverage the best of modern storage technologies, you should take advantage of products that can utilize both types of drives.Continue Reading

Chat stew, lots of good real stuff in there

blog mblandini logo Chat stew, lots of good real stuff in thereWe are officially in autumn now in the northern hemisphere. Less grilling and more comfort food for dinner, although fantastic grilling weather continues here in California. And when I think of soup and stew, I think of the E! network and the classic Talk Soup show. One segment of the show was Chat Stew, where they feature funny clips from other talk shows. A show based on it, The Soup, now airs weekly on E!.

What does this have to do with blogger and industry expert Scott Lowe of The 1610 Group? Continue Reading

All good things …

blog tbuiocchi e1332538899728 All good things ...Hi there – I just wanted to give you a quick update on the status of the new Drobo 5D and Mini products – everyone has been waiting anxiously, and very patiently, thank you!

First, the good news. The products are looking great! I’ve been using them and watching them in action here in the office – and they are clearly the best Drobos ever – faster, quieter, more robust, and much smaller (in the case of the Mini).  In fact, if you’re interested and want to see for yourself, we are extending our popular Live Demo sessions to these new products as well.Continue Reading

Winner winner chicken dinner, and a Stevie!

blog mblandini logo Winner winner chicken dinner, and a Stevie!I had chicken for dinner last night along with hundreds of others in a group setting, many of whom were winners. The origins of this poultry reference are not definitive. Some say it’s a phrase from skeet shooting in Minnesota, others say it’s a reference to a past $1.79 meal deal in Nevada. I like watching Guy Fieri’s shows on TV, and he uses the expression a lot, though this recipe is more of a tasty lunch than a dinner.

stevie award presentation Winner winner chicken dinner, and a Stevie!Just when you thought this blog post would be informal, quite the opposite. Last night I was fortunate enough to formally attend the 10th Annual American Business Awards New Products & Tech Awards presentation banquet. How lucky am I! It was an honor being there on behalf of my colleagues @Drobo, those who built the Drobo B1200i, which was being recognized. Continue Reading

Blogging ain’t easy, but surveys are

blog mblandini logo Blogging ain’t easy, but surveys areAnyone can do it, right?  Blog that is, all you need is an Internet connected device and an opinion. Since the beginning of this year I have 34 posts before this one for a respectable pace, though my pace has slowed considerably of late. Overcoming physics is not generally easy, which explains why I have not been able to figure out a way through some parasitic drag to maintain a brisk pace. No shortage of opinions, got Internet too, so it must be the presence of multiple activities in relative proximity contributing to some of my personal interference drag.marines1 Blogging ain’t easy, but surveys are

Someone who makes blogging look very easy also happens to be working with Drobo to host a live event later this week Friday 9/21: no PPT, several survey questions, lots of analysis and advice from Scott Lowe (@otherscottlowe).
