Hi there again. I’m guessing that if you are interested in high-performance storage, you may be looking at Thunderbolt-based solutions. Good idea. Fast, networked Drobo. Yes, all three words in the same sentence. All the good stuff of a Drobo in a fast, ultra-modern networked storage solution – the new Drobo 5N is the third member in our new family of vastly improved Drobos – the Mini, the 5D, and now the 5N support higher performance, SSD technology, and even more sophisticated data protection.

This is a very exciting time for us. You’ve been very vocal (and patient, thanks) about having us take all of our Drobos up a notch or two and our team has been manically focused on this. I know you’ll appreciate the results!

Winner winner chicken dinner, and a Stevie!

I had chicken for dinner last night along with hundreds of others in a group setting, many of whom were winners. The origins of this poultry reference are not definitive. Some say it’s a phrase from skeet shooting in Minnesota, others say it’s a reference to a past $1.79 meal deal in Nevada. I like watching Guy Fieri’s shows on TV, and he uses the expression a lot, though this recipe is more of a tasty lunch than a dinner.

Just when you thought this blog post would be informal, quite the opposite. They flocked to the Drobo booth at VMworld 2012 in San Francisco. Over 1000 people took the Do The Math challenge for a chance to win an SSD acceleration for their B1200i or a free B800i array. Why reviews are so important

How do you shop for and buy significant items? For technical people, there is inevitably a strong research component. Wikipedia defines a review as “an evaluation of a piece of hardware like a car, home appliance, or computer.” My bet is that if you’re reading this, you’re the type of person who reads detailed independent reviews before buying any of these things. And in science, review articles provide a synthesis of research on a topic at that moment in time.

Is the tiering technology in the Drobo 5D and Drobo Mini the same as the B1200i?

Thinking about the pizza video from my last post leads me to another video that makes me think of Drobo’s new support for SSDs. Neither SSDs nor tiering are new to the industry, they really aren’t, but Drobo provides them in very unique way. Drobo makes them available in the same system as high-capacity hard disk drives.
