Drobo-Veeam promos extended to Q2 by popular demand

blog jsherhart Drobo Veeam promos extended to Q2 by popular demandWell, the people spoke and we gave away a lot of Veeam software in Q1. Because we want you to have the most affordable VM backup solution on the market, we’ve decided to extend the offer to Q2. Actually there are two Q2 offers in effect until June 30:

There is always room for Pi (“pie”)

blog mblandini e1332538823856 There is always room for Pi (pie)A month after Valentine’s Day comes “Pi day” on 3/14. Rather than reflect on love, Pi day provides the opportunity to ponder the transcendental nature of the best-known number that continues infinitely without repeating. Certainly much deeper contemplation seems appropriate than on other days of the year. On another special day this week, it was great to welcome back über-expert Rick Vanover to the Drobo Broadcast Network. and I want to reflect on that a bit. Small businesses often think that they cannot get all of the capabilities that large companies can enjoy with their larger budgets and a bigger IT staff. But that is what is so great about Dropbo + Veeam Backup & Replication. Continue Reading

Sometimes it’s hard to predict just how “good” something can be

blog tbuiocchi e1332538899728 Sometimes its hard to predict just how good something can beI have to admit I don’t like the NBA. Just don’t like the style of basketball they play. But I am generally a hoops fan, grew up in New York, loved the Knicks as a kid, and live near Palo Alto, CA now. So I’m all over this Jeremy Lin “Linsanity” thing. And the best part of it is that nobody could have predicted it would happen and nobody knew how good Jeremy Lin would be in a Knicks uniform. Where replication belongs – not where you’d think

Some may say we don’t pass the suitability / appropriate test, specifically without support for storage-based replication. The reality for SMBs is that replication does not really belong on the end devices such as storage arrays – it is far more appropriate and much more advantageous for replication to exist on a server.

Backup appliances officially overtake tape … really

blog mblandini 150x150 Backup appliances officially overtake tape ... reallyThe decline of tape and rise of disk-based backup has been trending in the press a decade+, though only very recently has the worldwide market for backup appliances actually overtaken tape, wow! Drobo agrees with the movement, internally revenue from our business products overtook that of our professional products, in part because we help customers make the transition from tape to disk backup. IDC is behind the appliance news, and Storage Newsletter has a good summary of the data. Continue Reading
